Davis & Elkins College

G. Thomas "Tom" Mann has served as president of Davis & Elkins College since 1998. He previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Graceland College in Iowa (1985-1991) and as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College at West Virginia Wesleyan College (1991-1998). He also served as interim president at West Virginia Wesleyan (1994-1995).

Dr. Mann holds the B.A. degree from Wayne State University, the M.A. from The University of Kansas, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in German literature and Germanic linguistics from The University of Michigan. He also studied at The University of Freiburg (Germany), The Free University of Berlin, and jointly at The University of Zurich and The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. He served as Professor of German and chair of the Humanities Division at Graceland College and as a Fulbright- Hayes exchange teacher in Munich, Germany.

Dr. Mann and his wife Carolyn Schorfheide Mann, a former German instructor and professional librarian, are the parents of one adult daughter, Kate, who lives in Chicago.

He serves as a consultant/evaluator for The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, as chairman of the board of directors of The Association of Presbyterian Colleges and Universities (APCU), and is on the board of directors for the Appalachian College Association, APCU Health and Risk Management Trusts, Randolph County Development Authority, Mountain State Forest Festival, Elkins Rotary Club, Mission West Virginia, and West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. He is also a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the West Virginia EPSCoR Advisory Council.
