Dr. J. Michael Clyburn
President
Alderson-Broaddus College
Dr. Clyburn graduated summa cum laude from Trevecca Nazarene College with a major in religion. He went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in sociology from Middle Tennessee State University. In 1990, he earned the Doctor of Education degree in Administration and Supervision with cognates in counselor education and higher education from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Clyburn's dissertation, "An Investigation of Institutional Research in Small, Private Colleges in the Southeastern United States", proved to be a prelude to his future calling.
On July 1, 2008, Dr. J. Michael Clyburn began his service as President of Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. Dr. Clyburn also serves on various councils and committees including the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Barbour County Planning Authority, West Virginia Region VII Planning Council, and the Executive Committee and Leadership Committee of the West Virginia Convention of the American Baptist Church.
More recently, Dr. Clyburn served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Lincoln Memorial University with supervisory responsibility for all undergraduate programs, graduate programs, library, institutional research, preschool, college preparatory academy (grades 5-12), museum, Elderhostel program, and university operations at nine extended sites in Tennessee and Kentucky. In this position, he assisted with the development of a new medical school, donor development, accreditation processes, trustee communication, and alumni relations. He facilitated successful regional and professional accreditation reviews for undergraduate nursing, graduate nursing, education, medical school, athletic training, social work, veterinary technology, nurse practitioner, nurse anesthesiologist, and extended site programs.
Dr. Clyburn served as President of Louisburg College in Louisburg, NC where he facilitated a $20 million capital campaign with funding for capital projects, annual fund, endowment, and student scholarships.

Dr. Clyburn was born in Kissimmee, Florida. He is married to Sheila (Richards) Clyburn of Columbia, Kentucky. They have two daughters involved in successful careers of education and public service. The older daughter is a faculty member at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and the younger daughter is a second grade school teacher in Sparta, Michigan.
