Mountain State University, with its main campus located in Beckley, is West Virginia's largest private institution of higher education. MSU serves students from throughout the state, across the country, with academic programs in such high-demand fields as hospitality, human services, business and technology, and health sciences. Other undergraduate programs include traditional arts and sciences and liberal study fields. The University offers master's degrees in criminal justice administration, health sciences, interdisciplinary studies, nursing, physician assistant, and strategic leadership. Most recently, MSU was granted approval to offer the Doctorate in Executive Leadership.
MSU provides a friendly campus surrounded by the natural beauty of the southern West Virginia highlands, and the small city of Beckley combines a relaxed atmosphere with a surprising number of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. Students enjoy University sporting events with a championship NAIA men's basketball team, as well as volleyball, soccer, track, cross country, and participate in intramural sports and other activities.
In addition to its main campus in Beckley, the University maintains five branch campuses: MSU Martinsburg, serving the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and the quad-state area; MSU Orlando, serving central Florida; MSU Center Township, serving greater Pittsburgh; MSU Mooresville, serving Mooresville and greater Iredell County; and MSU Washington DC, serving the District of Columbia area. Selected programs are offered at an educational site at Hickory, N.C. and at locations throughout West Virginia, and through a variety of distance learning formats.
