Leadership:

Serving West Virginia's Students for West Virginia's Future

WVICU, now celebrating its 57th year, provides undesignated and designated support to its nine fully accredited institutions. Since 1951, the consortium has provided over $33 million to the colleges it serves with one hundred percent of all gifts distributed directly to member institutions for the purposes of scholarship and other financial aid support. All private colleges and universities in West Virginia are members of WVICU. These colleges represent 875 years of collective service to the State of West Virginia. We are proud of the rich heritage and educational tradition of our member institutions.

The mission of WVICU is to champion independent higher education throughout West Virginia. The vision for the consortium maintains that independent higher education in West Virginia will be an accessible, indispensable and highly visible component of the State's educational, economic and cultural life. Our member colleges possess a high level of excellence in teaching and technology, low faculty-student ratios, high retention of students and a unique, personal approach to education. These institutions teach students to master critical thinking skills, communicate effectively, and gain an appreciation for the arts and humanities, as well as a commitment to community service.

This year, more than 11,000 students are enrolled at our private colleges and universities. Sixty percent of these students are from West Virginia and 92 percent of our students receive some form of financial aid.

Our nine member institutions are also an excellent financial investment, employing more than 6,000 individuals and managing operating budgets, excluding endowment and reserve funds, totaling nearly $209 million.

Our goal is to raise $1.1 million this year for the students at our private colleges and universities. I hope you will generously support WVICU and the fine West Virginia independent colleges and universities it represents.
