Lewis N. McManus Memorial Scholarship Fund
Mr. McManus left a portion of his estate to WVICU, and it was used to establish a fund that would provide scholarships for deserving and needy West Virginia students, who were either thinking of a career in public service or who were active in community service.
Lew served on the WVICU Board of Directors for more than two decades, and he was deeply committed to higher education and to assisting students. As a member of the House of Delegates, he created the West Virginia Higher Education Grant Program. He also served as president of the University of Charleston, where he attended college, graduating with Honors. Lew's political career began when he was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1964, and he was re-elected for five terms. He was named Speaker of the House in 1971, and his colleagues re-elected him as Speaker for two more terms.
Lew was a cherished friend to many and improved the lives of many others through his distinguished public service.
