Davis & Elkins College's Mission is "to prepare and inspire students for success and for thoughtful engagement in the world." Located in West Virginia's beautiful Mountain Highlands, D&E focuses on discovering possibilities and empowering students through a strong Liberal Arts tradition that prepares graduates to make a life as well as a living.
More than 30 academic programs lead to associate and baccalaureate degrees, from the traditional arts and sciences to professional studies, including nursing and teacher education. The College's Robert C. Byrd Hospitality Management and Tourism Center draws on the area's growing tourism industry and the College's own historic Graceland Inn. Pre-professional programs prepare students for admission to schools of medicine, dentistry, the ministry, occupational therapy, pharmacy and law.
D&E's innovative Winter Term program enhances the College's academic experience through intensive, creative learning opportunities during three weeks each January. Many students use Winter Term to gain practical internship experience, study abroad, or learn through service.
The College is home to the Augusta Heritage Center, an internationally known program that is dedicated to the preservation and advancement of American Folk Culture and enriches the cultural fabric on campus. Projects and people with the Augusta Heritage Center have been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts as well as the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and other arts organizations.
Educational outcomes for D&E graduates lead to impressive career placement and admission to excellent graduate and professional schools. The College's alumni include leaders in every field, from world soccer to the environmental community, restaurateurs, medicine, business and industry, and the West Virginia Bar Association. Davis & Elkins College is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The campus includes several individually listed National Historic Landmarks as well as a National Historic District.
